There is a device that has been developed primarily by dentists that is elegant in its simplicity, yet extraordinary in usefulness as it relates to winning the battle of the bedroom: a snoring mouthpiece. This oral appliance is fitted to the teeth and worn to bed so as to prevent snoring. When we stop snoring, everyone in the bedroom gets a better night’s sleep. Let’s talk about the importance of sleep.

We cannot control our health and our lives without quality sleep. We feel better about ourselves and about the world around us. We don’t suffer from daytime listlessness, and we have energy.

Sleep scientist tell us that there are some eighty disorders that get in the way of sleep. The irony is that snoring is at the top of the list although people who snore rarely admit that it bothers them. They deny they have a problem but will admit it’s a problem for their spouse. The snorer thinks that their partner is the person who is most affected by their snoring. The sad thing is they don’t recognize the harmful effects of snoring on the snorer. This thinking is totally incorrect. Snorers do not get good quality sleep and we’ll explain why a snoring mouthpiece can change all of that a little further into this article.

Please understand, again, the importance of sleep and the danger of not sleeping well. It does not matter whether a person snores, has sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, insomnia, or just doesn’t go to bed in a timely fashion poor sleep is poor sleep and it has very negative consequences.

Daytime fatigue listlessness, is the most common complaint from poor sleepers. A universal complaint from snorers is that they feel exhausted all the time, and this is particularly true when they aren’t being physically active. The person who is sleep-deprived due to snoring has great difficulty staying awake when sitting, doing office work or driving, which is very dangerous. Here’s how pervasive this problem is: almost 40% of American adults complain that their daytime fatigue interferes with their daily activities. And almost every one of these poor folks will also tell you that they have no energy, period. They literally feel sick. Bearing this in mind, a snoring mouthpiece makes common sense, does it not?

Ever wonder where the saying grumpy old men (and women)? They’re in a bad mood too! They’re irritable and grumpy because of poor sleep not because life’s ups and downs have taken a toll on them. An oral appliance, otherwise known as a snoring mouthpiece may offer a solution.

Snoring Physiology

Air reaches your lungs when you breathe by traveling from either the nostrils or the mouth through an opening at the back of the throat called the airway and on down. This is because soft tissues like the soft palate and uvula surrounding this airway relax when we fall asleep. This makes the airway smaller.. In order to breathe, air must be under more pressure since the opening is smaller (like a pressure wash on your hose). This means that the breath stream has more air pressure and as it passes over these soft tissues it causes them to flutter or vibrate like a flag in the wind. When someone snores, the noise can partially arouse them from the deeper stages of sleep. They may not be aware of it while they’re sleeping, so they tend to deny that it’s a problem (in denial). Medical science has worked hard for years to come up with snoring solutions everything from complicated surgeries to sprays. They have not been very successful so far. The good news is that a snoring mouthpiece can re-align the jaw in such a way as to physically and mechanically open up the airway. With an open airway, snoring goes away. The snoring mouthpiece appears to be a very promising technology to stop snoring.
