The need for clean drinking water cannot be overstated. What’s the purest drinking water available? Well you won’t find it in a bottle at the grocery store, that’s for sure.
If you do some research, you will learn that clean drinking water may no longer exist on our planet, at least in a natural setting. If you do a little more research, you might start to get a little scared.
Protected springs were once considered the sources of the purest drinking water available. People who had private wells felt there was no need to worry. Now, without testing, you cannot be sure that a spring or a well is not contaminated and such levels can change on a daily basis, even testing is no guarantee.
Bug sprays, weed killers and other chemicals, parasites, protozoa, bacteria and other microscopic life forms are all found in groundwater. Recent testing revealed prescription drugs and hormones in what was supposed to be clean drinking water.
Perrier, which has long been considered the purest drinking water, was found to contain toxic levels of benzene. When ingested, the chemical causes vomiting, dizziness, sleepiness, convulsions and death. Chronic or long term exposure causes leukemia, a type of cancer.
When companies store clean drinking water in plastic containers and ship them around the world, it absorbs BPA and phthalates. Both of these act like hormones and can cause symptoms ranging from irritability to permanent changes in the genital tract and cancer. So, what are we supposed to do?
If you want to provide the purest drinking water to your family, you have to install the best filtration system and use glass bottles for storing it. With today’s technology, it is possible to clean drinking water in the home more effectively than what can be done at the treatment facility.
The facilities do a good job, serious waterborne illnesses are rare. But, the long term detrimental health effects of chemical disinfection may be just as bad. Chlorine and its by-products have been linked with an increased risk of cancer in numerous studies. And, even if you have clean drinking water in the kitchen, you are still not safe.
In the shower, chemicals become vaporized. Inhaling allows them to enter the bloodstream even more quickly than if ingested by mouth. Chlorine vapors trigger asthma attacks. Its by-products cause dizziness and drowsiness. Either through inhaling or skin absorption, they enter the body and have been linked to rectal and breast cancer.
You want to purest drinking water, but you don’t want these chemicals anywhere in your home. You can get reasonably priced showerhead filters or even a whole house filtration system and get a little more peace of mind.
We often think of clean drinking water as a right, but we must stop relying on others to provide it. Point of use or home filtration is the right thing to do.
